Heading for Inclusive School in Europe

Belgium represented by the collège Saint Guibert in Gembloux (province of Namur)

The collège Saint Guibert is a school that was founded by the congregation “Frères des Ecoles Chrétiennes” (Brothers of Christian Schools) and based on the principles of its founding father Jean Baptiste de La Salle.

Its pedagogy is centered on young people, adapted to their time, and anxious to prepare them to take their place in society with a special attention to those who are most deprived at all levels.

This Collège consists of 4 schools on 4 locations for 3,100 students.

Open-mindedness, sense of listening, availability, faith, the place of the pupil are the core values of our educational project.

« What I am is made of the relationships that I weave »
Albert Jacquard

We want a school that promotes:

  • The relationship to oneself
  • The relationship to knowledge,
  • The relationship to others

In this project, our motivation is based from the beginning on these fundamental principles.

The Collège will contribute to the project with:

  • its know-how in communication aimed at "changing views on disability"
  • its experience in inclusion based on the values of the institution: promotion of self-confidence, acquisition of knowledge in order to take an active place in society and exercise full citizenship, access to social emancipation.
  • the lessons learned from the activities carried out within the framework of the school's project which is centered on a reflection on how to include the most disadvantaged or disabled pupils. (Autism, motor disability, hearing impairment, learning disabilities)
  • an experienced and motivated team
