Heading for Inclusive School in Europe

2. France, represented by 3 institutions:

  • the Association for Adults and Young persons with Disabilities (APAJH) based in Cahors (Occitanie Region), which will be the project coordinator,
  • the Jean Calvet school also from Cahors,
  • and the Institute for Training, Research, Animation in Health and Social sector (IFRASS) from Toulouse (Occitanie).

L’APAJH/46

APAJH/46   intervenes in several relevant areas of the project, in particular in training sessions carried out by its director and its team of professionals within the local administration of the Ministry of National Education, within the framework of teacher and ASEHs (educational helper to disabled pupils) training, and also at the IUT (University Institute of Technology) of Figeac, an IFRASS Toulouse branch which is an active partner in the project.

The APAJH conducts actions throughout the territory by raising awareness, giving information in order to change the way people look at disability, through active members of the association and teams of professionals.

The Association intervenes in particular in the Children’s Rights Month, an event that was initiated by the Lot Department Council and is led by Thérèse Péguin (member of the APAJH and former specialized teacher), or the International Day of People with a Disability in December sponsored by the City Council of Cahors.

Jean Calvet school:

This school has 7 classes (2 CP, 1 CE1, 1 CE2, 1 CE2/CM1, 1 CM1/CM2 and 1 CM2)

For the SEN pupils, it relies on 2 specialized systems:

  • An ULIS (Located Unit for Inclusive Education)
  • The CLINT (Integrated class) of the IME (Medical and Educational Institute) of Vire sur Lot

In areas relevant to the project, the school will be more particularly qualified to:

  • Share its experience of including pupils with special educational needs in the classes
  • Provide its know-how in assessing the possibilities of progression from pupils with disabilities and measure the effects of their education
  • Propose a proven organization with a strong emphasis on complementary and synergy between stakeholders
  • Demonstrate that learning to live together must be the basis of inclusion
  • Translate many documents into English.

IFRASS from Toulouse

The link between health and social professions is at the center of the Institute’s training policy. It is implemented through the setting up of training activities across all the pedagogical clusters. Sequences of training are transversal and involve several professions, in particular around the theme of early childhood.

Thus, IFRASS brings to this project:

  • Technical and conceptual expertise concerning the issue of social and educational inclusion of children with disabilities
  • Links with the publishing world that will promote the publication of the productions and their dissemination.
  • Opportunities for sustaining the outcomes of the partnership
  • A pedagogical and managerial staff, coordinated by Philippe GABERAN, and composed of Mrs. Agnès DJEDDI-DESABRES, in charge of the Figeac site, and Jean-Loup LENOIR, doctor of psychology, pedagogical executive at IFRASS, and Umberto CUGOLA, doctor of anthropology, pedagogical executive at the IFRASS.
  • The team will contribute to analyzing the observed and shared facts leading to imagine and identify strategies that are suited to a specific teaching, trying to model them by means of simple and readable technical and practices sheets, and evaluating the transferability of developed strategies to other contexts
  • Its ability to design technical sheets for use by professionals, teachers, parents and other partners engaged in inclusive education

These tools will allow, by a simple and visual reading, to identify the difficulties and potentials developed by the target public (by identifying it in each sheet not according to a classification of the handicaps but by learnings to be achieved) and proposals for practical exercises.
